No. 10 The Annual Sale-a-palooza is Here
Everything I'm eyeing in this heavily discounted world.
Look at This is a newsletter devoted to beautiful things of many kinds.
Black Friday is here! Earlier than ever to get our attentions. Since the sheer amount of sales is overwhelming, I chose to share the things that I’ve been seriously contemplating or have already bought. With the sales screaming at us for weeks on end, it’s so hard to stick to any type of budget. So if you’ve already maxed out for the month, this is your encouragement to delete this email and find another thing to read right now. I recommend this short and sweet NYTimes feature on Grace Wales Bonner’s expansive career developments.
First up, the things I’ve already purchased either on discount or full price:
I run hot all year round, so working in a large office with the heat already blasting has led me to embrace layered dressing. My favorites are Gil Rodriguez tank tops for their thick and soft cotton and toning amount of elastic. I scored the Matisse tank in a burgundy for fall at 30% off and the el Tigre in chocolate brown. The sale tops seam to be selling out quickly, so jump on them while you still can.
The Flamingo Estate candles are my go-to for both gifting and my own home. They don’t trigger my fragrance allergy and the recently updated jar is now worth saving and refilling. Tomato is a great place to start, but I just bought the Jasmine and Bergamot to try next. They are currently 20% off site-wide, but you can use my link for $20 off, which will in turn give me $20 off so I can buy more. We can make our mutual Black Fridays even better!
Now is the time of year to stock up on essentials. First up, and the most basic layer, is the Arq Misha Undies. Comfortable, stretchy, high cut on the leg, and hi-rise to just under the belly button, they are my current ideal cut of underwear. Still sexy in a library-who-fucks kind of way. Discounts range from 15-50% off. Special shout-out to the tanks and high-wasted undies as well.
Next on my essentials are the Dieux Skin Moisturizers for 20% off. Instant Angel is neutral and comforting to the skin perfect for winter. Their newest launch, Air Angel, is great for daytime, oily skin, or as a first layer of hydration boost underneath thicker creams in dry winter air. The eye cream and under eye masks are effective at reducing my genetic dark circles and boosting hydration. Extra discount: their Tik Tok shop has an extra % off depending on your algorithm on top of the 20% on their site.
Your toothbrush probably needs an upgrade. I have yet to find a better looking one than the Suri. It’s also repairable, compostable, effective, and a pleasure to use. No more having to buy and toss a new one every few years. With 25% off for Black Friday the price goes down to $62, now comparable to other high-end brushes on the market. I am kicking myself that I bought mine before the sale, but will be going back for the travel case and replacement heads. Use code KRISTA62999 for an extra 15% off the sale.
Less a thing to look at than a thing to consume, Ritual protein powder is well flavored with vanilla and pairs beautifully with your frozen fruit of choice. It makes my smoothies taste like fruity milkshakes. 40% off is a great time to give it a try if you’re still on the hunt for a tasty way to up your protein.
Rosette lace skirts have been on my radar since this summer. The lace and mesh skirts scratch the Miu Miu itch and are now 30% off. I plan on wearing them to the office under extra large baggy t-shirts or button downs with big ARQ high-waisted underwear underneath.
Since I started working at Glossier earlier this year, I’ve tried all. After Baume is perfect for layering over skincare on especially dry nights, or as a non-greasy winter hand cream. Party Pots are great as eyeshadow with minimal creasing yet maximum glow. They can be layered on lightly for a gentle wash of glow and color, or packed on for sparkly party eyes. All three colors are beautiful for a wide range of skin tones. Cranberry Lip Trio is an autumnal red in three hydrating formulas featuring different levels of pigment payoff. I’ve been wearing Gen G in Cranberry for a daily wash of burgundy, and G Suit for a more impactful lip on nights out. The new Gen G formula is so much more hydrating than the previous iteration, and G Suit is also a sleeper fav. It’s both hydrating and pigmented, and wears beautifully throughout the day. It’s nothing like 2016’s liquid lipsticks.
My shopping list:
The top of my list is the Ziip micro- and nano-current device. Cheaper than a round of baby botox and just as effective at lifting the brows according to their before and afters and a few friends. 15% off brings it to just south of $300. Years ago it was priced at $500, which makes this discount seam like all the more of a steal.
I need a larger carry-on size suitcase for those long weekend trips. The Away Bigger Carry On looks like the perfect size, and the new glossy shades have finally made me like the design. The navy is perfection and will match well with my old big white Rimowa from 8 years ago. At 20% off it’s finally reaching affordability.
For the home, I don’t need much these days, but you can always use another little lamp. The Flos Bellhop Lamp is a portable classic with the perfect hat shaped lid. Great to plop on your table while you’re eating, or to bring around to your favorite reading spots. It comes in multiple colors, but the brick red is my favorite. It’s currently down 20% off to $280, making it a little less luxurious. If you need a big ticket gift for any design-minded relatives, this has my full endorsement.
If you’re looking for a more comprehensive guide to every sale that is currently active, I recommend the lovely newsletter Magasin, which has the longest list of sales I’ve ever seen. Peruse at your own wallets risk.
And finally, for those of you who are interested in crochet and knitting, I am looking for testers for my Mohair Bonnet Crochet pattern! Please leave your email here and I’ll be in touch with the pattern and next steps after Thanksgiving.
